Assam: TET examination schedule announced

The first ever Teachers' Eligibility Test (TET) examination will be held in Assam on December 4, 2011. The application forms for the TET examination will be supplied to the intending candidates through post offices across the state from September 23, 2011. The application forms will be supplied till October 11, 2011 and the last date of depositing the same has been fixed on October 17, 2011. The results the TET examination will be announced on December 23, 2011. Assam Education and Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma told NEWS LIVE that the intending candidates will be able to collect application forms and to submit them after filling up at the post offices. Explaining the features of new appointment system for teachers in Assam Dr Sarma said that candidates having 50% of marks in graduation will be eligible to apply for the Secondary as well as LP and ME school's post. He said that the central government has already announced about the forthcoming TET examination in a special gazette published recently. Dr Sarma said that each and every intending candidates will have to deposit Rs 350 through IPO (Indian Postal Order) to appear in the examination. The Education Minister said that answer papers will be scrutinized through computer and the process will be completed between December 4 to December 21, 2011. Eight observers will be appointed for the purpose and the results will be announced depending on their observation. He also said that the present examination centers for the matriculation examination will be used for the TET examination except a few cases where intending candidates number will be less. He announced that the qualifying marks for the general candidates will be 50% and 50% for the SC, ST and OBC candidates. The results of the TET examination will be valid for 7 years to get appointed as teacher. Dr Sarma also announced that a new course known as Diploma in Education will be introduced in the state from January next year. This new course will be introduced to increase the number of trained man power in the education sector, he added. He further said that to increase the number of teachers in the single teachers schools the government has decided to transfer teachers with their post to such schools where large number of teachers are working against sanctioned posts. This decision has been taken to rationalize the number of teachers in every schools of the state. Dr Sarma who is also the Health Minister said that the first ever adult vaccination programme against Encephalitis will be launched from October 15, 2011. This is for the first time in the country such vaccination programme will ve launched in Sivsagar district on experimental basis, he added. Dr Sarma said that government earlier launched this programme only for the children and it was 99% successful. He hoped that the anti- Encephalitis vaccination for the adult persons will also be successful.
